GO! celebrates topping-out ceremony of expanded central hub in Niederaula

  • Construction project runs according to plan
  • Investment sum of more than 11 million euros
  • Opening planned for May 2018

Bonn, 25 January 2018. Just under five months after the first brick had been laid in the expansion of the GO! central hub in August 2017, a further step towards finishing the project was made. Together with mayor Thomas Rohrbach, those involved in the construction, members of the town council and other guests celebrated the topping-out ceremony today for the construction work carried out to expand the main sorting centre in Niederaula in the German state of Hesse.

Expansion of the central hub on track

The figures about the construction process hint at the size of the project. Construction workers have spent around 5,000 working hours on the site to date. Every day up to 25 lorries remove 75,000 tonnes of earth and transport approximately 7,000 tonnes of soil compaction material to the site. Around 5,000 trips have been carried out so far in order to complete the project by May 2018 as planned. Afterwards, the Niederaula site will offer more than 7,600 square metres of hall space as well as more room for offices, social spaces and storage facilities.

Once complete, the expansion will enable the sorting of 10,500 parcels and packages per hour. To be able to process these volumes, GO! will be employing a further 30 members of staff in handling. The extension is being carried out while operations continue at the site, and logistics experts have invested more than 11 million euros in the construction project. ‘This necessary expansion in capacity will help us to handle expected consignment volumes reliably and punctually, to shorten transport routes and to achieve even higher flexibility when it comes to planning routes,’ explains Ulrich Nolte, managing director of GO! Express & Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH.

GO! continues to grow with specialised logistics solutions

GO! Express & Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH was able to increase its volume of consignments by more than ten per cent for the fourth year running. In order to keep on top of the continually growing delivery volumes whilst providing the same level of quality, it is necessary to expand the central hub. The express and courier service provider transported more than six million shipments and generated revenue of over 300 million euros in 2017. This means that the company growth is considerably higher than the industry average of 4.2 per cent (source: BIEK KEP study). Once all construction measures are complete, the main sorting centre will have fulfilled all requirements to allow it to process growing consignment volumes in the interest of the customers. A total of 70 additional gates for goods vehicles and lorries will ensure punctual handling so that consignments are delivered to commercial centres by 10 a.m. and to customers anywhere in Germany by 12 noon.
